How It Works

Air fryers are compact convection ovens: a fan circulates hot air quickly around the food, so they cook faster and hotter than a conventional oven. To adapt an oven recipe, you generally lower the temperature and shorten the time.

Conversion Rules
  • Temperature — Reduce the oven temperature by about 25°F (15°C) for the air fryer.
  • Time — Reduce the oven cooking time by about 20% (multiply by 0.8).
  • Reverse (air fryer → oven) — Add ~25°F (15°C) and increase the time by ~25% (divide by 0.8).
Tips For Best Results
  • Check food a few minutes early the first time you convert a recipe — air fryers vary.
  • Don't overcrowd the basket; leave space so air can circulate.
  • Shake, toss, or flip food halfway through cooking.
  • A light spray of oil helps crisping for foods like fries and vegetables.
  • These are guidelines, not guarantees — always cook to a safe internal temperature.
